Mata Atlântica de Pé | Cantos do Sabiá

João Lucas França – Broadcaster and communicator for the Sabiá Center.

Standing Atlantic Forest. This has to be the motto, our cry, to think about the month of May – and especially on May 27: National Atlantic Forest Day.

The Atlantic Rainforest is Brazil’s second largest forest, covering 17 states and around 15% of the country’s territory. Pernambuco is also an Atlantic Forest, with more than 60 conservation units. We live in the forest. And that’s why – but also for the conservation of nature, the plants, the animals, the unique species of this forest – we need to do more than just reduce deforestation.

We need to do more than preserve. The Atlantic Forest needs to be standing! Free from poisons, deforestation, agribusiness and gigantic pastures. A standing forest is worth much more than a deforested one. Shall we talk about our forest?

Here to talk to us about Atlantic Forest Day and the standing forest is Cinthia Lima – a biologist with a master’s degree in Plant Biology and a doctorate in Ethnobiology and Nature Conservation from UFRPE. She is a civil servant at the Pernambuco State Environment Agency (RH/PE), working as an environmental analyst in the management of protected areas.

Cantos do Sabiá is the Sabiá Center Podcast! Every week we discuss agroecology, sustainability and politics in the countryside and the city! The podcast goes live every Monday, with the complete interview edition that originally made up the Center’s radio program. https://spoti.fi/31VtUj5
